Cenote Escondido

ESCONDIDO (Mayan Blue)

LOCATION:

DIFFICULTY: EASY. There are two main lines here with several jumps off them. This cenote is similar to Eden/Ponderosa as a lot of cave diving training is done here. During the dives you can expect to see haloclines, some light effects, some speleothems and fossils.

WC FACILITIES: Yes, the best that I have seen so far.

OTHER FACILITIES: No.

FOOD SOLD HERE: No.

ACTIVITIES FOR NON-DIVERS: Yes. Influencer hot spot. Lay in a hammock, look gorgeous. Stand at the edge of the cenote, look gorgeous. Swim in the cenote, look gorgeous. Beautiful location to hang out to see and be seen (while your buddy dives)

CURRENT ENTRY FEE: $300 Pesos

SUMMARY: This is another popular site for cave diving presenting both beginner and more advanced diving. Depending on the line that you take, there can be some massive depth changes so for those with sensitive ears, be aware and let your guide or buddies know ahead of time. Also not in the photo above: to the right side of the photo, you will see stairs as well as a platform. That platform isn’t very big and isn’t the easiest to get to. Tanks usually are placed there but it can get crowded some days so heads up. This also goes for the stairs as they are shared with all the divers as well as the people who aren’t diving but just enjoying the cenote (usually by “being gorgeous” and taking photos- see activities above) Another thing to note is that from the parking load out to the actual cenote is a little bit of a walk. Doesn’t seem to bother the divers in doubles but if you’re in side mount and/or carrying stages, just be aware. Great place to mess with people by blowing bubbles at the feet of the swimmers above you.
