NOHOCH NA CHICH

LOCATION:

DIFFICULTY: EASY. The passages are quite large so if you struggle with buoyancy (which, if you’re going into a cave, you really shouldn’t be) there is enough room to correct yourself before you slam into something. But you’re a properly trained cave diver so you’re not going to slam into anything, are you? If you want to get used to camera skills in a cave, this is probably a good one due to the large passages and interesting features throughout the cave.

WC FACILITIES: Yes

OTHER FACILITIES: Gift Shop

FOOD SOLD HERE: No

ACTIVITIES FOR NON-DIVERS: Yes, tons. One can just paddle about in the cenote but if you’re feeling more adventurous, there is also a zip-line.

CURRENT ENTRY FEE: $300 Pesos

SUMMARY: Beautiful, highly decorated cave with gigantic speleotherms. Home of the famous “Heaven’s Gate” which looks like an actual gate to heaven (or the underworld?). This is a “white” cave (don’t get it twisted, lol) meaning that the walls are not dark or stained with tannic water. This makes for a “brighter” cave- if you can call a cave bright, which I just did.

DIVE ENTRY :

This is luxury cave diving. No, seriously. Take a look at the photo above- see that separation? That is to keep non-cave divers from the cave divers. See the bench/tables? You can put your equipment and tanks there. See that nice stairway into the cenote? The only thing that could make diving here better is if an extremely soft baby bear were to cuddle you all the way to the water and place you gently in it. Hmmm, soft baby bear cuddles…
